Woolly Mammoth Clones Are Closer Than You Think

Wooly Mammoth

Scientists say they are very close to being able to clone or create a woolly mammoth hybrid with Asian elephants.  The mammoth DNA was extracted from two in Siberia that died about 20,000 – 60,000 years ago.  The scientists discovered that the mammoths and Asian elephants share a common ancestor only 5 million years ago, which is not much in the evolutionary time scale.  The next step is to splice a handful of mammoth genes into Asian elephant cells to create a creature that looks and behaves much like a mammoth.  Now that we know they can do it, has anyone contacted Jeff Goldblum to ask if they should do it?
