Life-Like Robots Are Here
Life-Like Robots are already here and will be working at museums in Tokyo. Toshiba has developed a life-like robot that can perform sign language while lip-synching to a recorded message. Aiko looks like a woman dressed in a pink blouse and white skirt. She has 43 actuators, including 15 for facial expressions which allow it to provide more life-like expressions. Currently the robot only does Japanese Sign Language, but will soon be programmed to handle American Sign Language. The robot is not advanced enough to be considered artificial intelligence however it’s just one more step on the way to a more advanced society.
